Thailand Visa: A Brief Overview

Thailand offers a variety of visas to suit different purposes. Here are some of the most common ones:  

Tourist Visa

  • Purpose: For tourism, leisure activities during your stay in Thailand , or medical treatment in one of the many medical institutions.
  • Duration: Typically 60 days, but can be extended for another 30 days at the local Immigration.  
  • Requirements: Passport, return flight ticket, proof of accommodation, and sufficient funds.

Destination Thailand Visa (DTV)

  • Purpose: For remote workers, digital nomads, and freelancers.  
  • Duration: Up to 180 days per visit, with a total validity of five years.  
  • Requirements: Passport, proof of income, and a work plan.

Transit Visa

  • Purpose: For travelers passing through Phuket Thailand.  
  • Duration: Depends on your flight itinerary.
  • Requirements: Passport, onward ticket, and proof of accommodation (if applicable).

Other Thailand Visas

  • Work Visa: Non-B Visa for employment in Phuket, Thailand.  
  • Education Visa: For studying in Thailand.  
  • Marriage Visa: For marrying a Thai citizen.  

Important Notes:

  • Visa-on-Arrival (VOA): Citizens of certain countries can obtain a 30-day VOA upon arrival at Thai airports such as Phuket International airport. Check the latest regulations for your nationality.  
  • Visa Extensions: It’s possible to extend your stay in Thailand beyond the initial visa period. However, you’ll need to apply for an extension at the Immigration Office.  
  • Visa Fees: Visa fees vary depending on the type of visa and your nationality.
